Sony gave us a long look at Detroit: Become Human during their E3 press conference. Via a new gameplay trailer, they unveiled the third playable character for Quantic Dreams’ long-gestating PlayStation exclusive.
Enter Markus, who prefers a more hands-on approach in the Androids’ struggle to convince humanity that they’re more than mindless automatons. It’s unclear how big a role each of the game’s protagonists, Kara, Connor, and Markus, will play in the events of the game.
From the demo, it certainly seems as if Markus will be handling the bulk of the game’s action. From what we saw, he’s able to interface with other Androids and data hubs to manipulate his surroundings. It’s kind of hard to tell if there will be any gunplay in the game. Guns exist; the trailers have all made that pretty clear, but there was no actual shooting that occurred during the E3 demo.
The core aspect of the game will be the many decisions you’ll have to make, which can have branching and lasting effects on Detroit’s narrative. Apart from that, it looks like you’ll also be taking over areas of the city. At one point, Markus plants a holographic flag on a kiosk in the center of a busy center, so there may be some Ubisoft style fog of war stuff happening.
The most obvious thing we can surmise from the trailer is that the game looks amazing visually. The character models, in particular, are highly detailed and aren’t as vulnerable to the effects of the uncanny valley as many that we’ve seen.
As of now, there’s still no release date for the game. There’s also no telling how long it will be until we get one. You know we’ll have that for you as soon as there is, though. So, be sure check back frequently.
