In our previous story about PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, we mentioned that the game may eventually be coming to PS4. Around that same time, the Daily Express published an article which said the game would remain an Xbox One exclusive on consoles. Following that, GameInformer reached out to the game’s developer, Bluehole Studios, to set the record straight.
In the Express’ article, they stated very clearly that they had “found out that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is NOT coming to PS4 but will instead remain an Xbox One exclusive.” In response to this, Bluehole’s issued a brief statement. It was fairly vague, honestly, but perhaps also good news for PS4 owners. It reads:
We’re excited to announce that PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS is coming to Xbox One. We’re always looking at various platforms to potentially introduce our game, but have nothing further to announce at this time.
So, that’s a pretty non-answer response if ever we’ve seen one. While it doesn’t state an intention to bring the game to PlayStation 4 owners, it does refute the Daily Express’ conclusions. Suffice to say, the possibility remains open that Battlegrounds might eventually end up on PS4.
Really, this is all the result of Microsoft’s insistence on using confusing language when they show off their “exclusives” at E3. Saying things like “console launch exclusive” leaves a lot of room for interpretation. It’s to their benefit to make buyers believe it means that these games will only be available on Xbox, but it makes it difficult for the average consumer to keep track of such things.
If the game is ever officially announced for PS4 you can bet we’ll let you know. In the meantime, why wait? You can pick it up for PC on Steam or buy it through Amazon right now.
