Respawn hasn’t given up on the Titanfall franchise. In fact, just today the developer has announced a new entry in the series, called Titanfall Assault. It’s a real-time strategy game that has been designed for mobile devices.
The game is set during the Frontier War, and it will pit players against one another in real time. Each player will assemble a deck of Pilots and Titans to face off in battles across various maps located on different planets across the frontier.
Assault borrows several familiar features from the mainline Titanfall games. Burn cards, for example, will be a major part of the game’s mechanics. There are dozens to collect, and consuming them during battles will provide a variety of tactical benefits.
Players can choose to compete for rank in the game’s leaderboards in addition to earning rewards that can be used to upgrade squads. For now, Respawn has detailed whether there will be any sort of solo campaign or story missions.
Last year, Respawn Beta tested another mobile game in the franchise. They called it Titanfall: Frontline. However, after the tests showed that the user experience wasn’t what they had in mind, they canceled the project.
You can pre-register for Titanfall Assault now. That said, there’s currently no release date scheduled for the game.
