Horizon Zero Dawn was always anticipated to be a potentially big deal, but no one, including the game’s developer, Guerrilla Games, could foresee how mega-successful the title would become. Shortly following its release, Guerrilla announced that, aside from continuing to support the game, they would begin working on DLC for Horizon, and the fruits of that labor were revealed today at Sony’s E3 press conference.
The story of The Frozen Wilds, as the DLC is called, was unveiled via a new trailer. It features a Banuk Shaman being interrogated by the game’s protagonist, Aloy. She’s hunting for answers following the events of the game proper.
The DLC appears to be centered around a mysterious plateau that is enveloped in a cloud of electricity and smog. Without diving into spoiler territory—because we can’t recommend enough that you experience Horizon unspoiled—it seems like we may get to face one of the game’s largest machines, which may also provide answers to some lingering questions.
At this time, it’s unclear how much of the DLC will take place on the existing map as opposed to new environments to explore. The trailer leaves a lot to the imagination, but we still can’t wait. The content is coming in 2017, but we don’t have an exact date yet. We’ll let you know when we do.
