For a PC gamer, setup is everything. We spend hours and thousands of dollars fixating over our choice of cases, graphics cards, cooling systems, processors and mother boards. However, with dedicated gamers spending upwards of 22 hours a week sitting static, we often ignore an important aspect of our gaming configuration: our gaming chair.

Choosing the right gaming chair is essential to reduce the build-up of stress as a consequence of our sedentary hobby. In this guide, we embark on a quest to find the best PC gaming chair that will ensure all those hours are spent in comfortably.

How to find the best PC gaming chair for you

Best PC gaming chair

Choosing the best chair for gaming entails a number of considerations that have to be pinned down before you actually start looking at PC gaming chairs. Outlining these beforehand will keep you focused on what features and specifications are important for your particular use case and potentially save you from buying the wrong chair.

  • Type of gaming chair: As a PC gamer, you would want to stay away from rockers and pedestal gaming chairs and stick to your traditional office chair style gaming chair with a five prong base. PC gaming requires a more a more upright seating position than console gaming which is what these products are designed for. And why not just use a regular office chair? Because gaming chairs are designed with ergonomics targeting gamers and feature larger reclining angles than office hairs for more comfortable, laid back gaming.
  • Budget: The amount you are prepared to spend is naturally an important factor which are limit or open up viable options. Gaming chairs cover a wide price spectrum with budget offering starting at under a hundred dollars, while name brand products costing significantly more.
  • Ergonomics: The ideal gaming chair should have an ergonomic design to reduce strain from extended periods of sitting. This means having a tilt and lock mechanism, seat height adjustment, a high back and headrest for support to the head and shoulders and adjustable lumbar support to support the lower back. Not all gaming chairs tick these boxes so it is important to find ones that do.
  • Size and weight: The best PC gaming chair for you would have to be bought keeping your size and weight in mind. While most chairs do have an adjustable design, it is important try out chairs if you can before purchasing and consider ‘big and tall’ models if you are a larger person.
  • Durability: Choice of materials is an important determiner of how long a chair will last you. In addition to the plastic or metal used for the frame, the quality of the leather/mesh and foam padding is vitally important. The length of the warranty period offered by the manufacturer is usually a good representation of how durable a product is. Choosing the product that is not designed to support your weight can also significantly cut down its usable life period.
  • Area of use: It is important to consider the product dimensions to make sure it will fit in well in your gaming area. For warmer areas, you would want a mesh covered chair for easy heat transfer. Similarly, for carpeted areas, high quality casters are important for easy mobility.
  • Asthetics: Looks matter and if you can, why not match your chair to your case lighting or your other gaming accessories

If you want the best of the best, you don’t need to look further than the DXRacer’s Racing Series of gaming chairs. DXRacer has been the purveyor of top end gaming and office chairs since 2006 and the Racing series is the pinnacle for their line.

DXRacer offers a wide variety of gaming and office chairs for the discerning user in an  assortment of models with different weight capacities, features and price. This particular mode, the DOH/RV001/NW is one of their full featured models in the Racing series and our pick for the best PC gaming chair you can buy today.

The DOH/RV001/NW model is a premium product with specialized ergonomics catering to the needs of PC gamers. The chair features a high back and integrated head rest to support the back and neck during extensive gaming periods. The high back curves inwards as it goes lower to follow the natural curve of the spine and provide lumbar support without any intrusive cushions or add ons. That said, this model does come with lumbar support and head rest pillows should you require additional padding included with the chair. The chair also features 4D adjustable armrests that can be adjusted for height, moved backwards or forwards, side to side and angled inwards or outwards to provide optimal support to your arms. Bolsters along the sides of the back and seat grip you comfortably providing great support from all sides, giving you the feeling of sitting inside the chair rather than on it. The whole chair features high density cold cure foam filling to provide throughout extensive periods of use.

The chair has conventional pneumatic seat raising mechanism to allow you to adjust seat height. Additionally, this model features DXRacer’s multifunctional mechanism that lets your rock the seat freely and lock it at angle that suits you. The chair also a car seat style lever to recline your seat up to a 135 degrees and lock it in at any angle.

This particular model is designed for gamers of average build with a 250 lb weight capacity. However, you can find similar functionality for larger and smaller users in DXRacer’s Sentinel and Formula series respectively. The chair has great build quality with a very solid, reassuring feel. It comes in DXRacer’s proprietary Carbon look Vinyl and PU (polyurethane) cover that provides better heat transfer than conventional mesh or leather covers while standing up to daily wear and tear. In terms of aesthetics, the Racing series has the same distinctive race car seat design you see in DXRacer’s entire product line with matching inlays in the metal base.

Each component felt reassuringly heavy during the quite easy assembly process. The chair comes with a lifetime warranty for the frame and a 2 year warranty for the parts and accessories which certainly shows DXRacer’s confidence in their product. It is important to note that the chair does require a break in period and the foam seat padding will be hard during initial use.

All in all, the Racing series shows us why DXRacer is the go to name for gaming chairs. The excellent ergonomics and use of high quality materials throughout to provide an amazing finish made it an obvious decision to choose as our pick for the best PC gaming chair in the market today.

MotoRacer’s offering to the high end gaming chair market is their Player Edition which attempts to take on our top pick, the DXRacer Racing series for the title of best PC gaming chair.

Off the bat, the MotoRacer ticks all the boxes for a high end gaming chair while beating the DXRacer on the price front. The chair features a highly ergonomic design specialized to provide a comfortable experience for gamers. Featuring up to 180 degrees of recline angle, the MotoRacer’s back can be reclined to your particular requirements and locked in place at the pull of a lever. The chair also features a rocking mechanism where the seat and back can be rocked with variable tension during use or set to one of the five available locking positions. The 4D armrests are height adjustable and can be moved inwards, outwards and from side to side. They can also be swivelled to provide you the best angle that suits your gaming style.  In addition to this, the chair also comes with lumbar support and headrest cushions for added support should you require it with easily adjustability via sliding straps down the back of the chair. Much like the DXRacer, the high back and built in headrest prove to be a winning combination, providing great support and flowing with the contours of your body to making the sitting experience very natural.

Overall, the MotorRacer provides a very competitive set of features. Traditional pneumatic height adjustment allows you to easily lower or raise the seat for your optimal position. The base is a standard 5 prong affair with quality casters for silent, smooth mobility and 360 degree swivel.

The chair has a maximum weight capacity of 330 lbs and features a metal base which bodes well for durability. The chair is finished in two tone polyurethane leather which is pretty standard for gaming chairs and generally stands up well to wear and tear. However, the material does not have particularly good heat transfer abilities so users in warmer climates might have some issues. The chair comes with a 1 year warranty for parts and mechanisms.

The MotoRacer Player Edition is a really good chair with a lot of features that make it a contender for the best PC gaming chair title. It matches the DXRacer in terms of accessories and features but lacks the 2 year warranty and wide variety of models for a personalized fit that DXRacer offers. Moreover, users do report that the gas lift mechanism is nearly a 100 mm long and even average height users find it difficult to use the chair with their feet flat at the lowest seat height. The company does offer lower gas lifts though and customer service is quite responsive. These issues aside, MotoRacer’s contribution is definitely worth considering if you require a durable, fully featured PC gaming chair in a tighter budget.

Homall has managed to make a PC gaming chair with much of the same features as our top two picks but at a fraction of the price. However, does the lower price point reflect in a degraded user experience?

Well, the Homall Gaming Chair contender for the best PC gaming chair does make a solid start a good ergonomic design. It has a high back with broad shoulder support and integrated headrest much like our top candidates. An adjustable lumbar support cushion and headrest are included with the chair but can prove to be too bloated for most users. The chair also features up to 180 degrees of reclining angle and a rocking a multifunction rocking mechanism that is typical of this segment. However, the armrests featured on the chair are not adjustable which means it loses significantly in the adjustability area. Lowering and raising the seat is pretty standard with a pneumatic mechanism and 360 degree swivel. Support is plentiful with a lot of foam padding and bolsters along the sides which do protrude a lot and might be constricting for heavy set users. It is also important to mention that as with most products that use high density foam, this chair would feel quite rigid during initial use and gives best results after the break-in period of approximately one week.

Homall’s chair is quite substantial with a lot of presence mostly because of its larger dimensions. The chair feels quite sturdy with lots of use of metal which is always reassuring. However, the wheels do feel a bit weak as you assemble, with a few customers also confirming durability issues with the wheels over long term use. This is surprising since the chair is rated at a 300 lb capacity. The PU leather cover means it should stand up well to wear and tear from daily use.

While Homall’s product does tick most of the boxes in terms of accessories and features, it is a budget offering which shows in a lack of quality control. Users have reported issues of misaligned parts and issues during assembly which is typical of feature packed budget gaming chairs that have to be self-assembled. Also, as mentioned, the wheels have been reported to not stand up well over extended use, particularly for larger users. The lack of adjustable arm rests also means this chair might night fit all body types which takes it out of contention for the title of best chair for PC gaming. That said, given the price point, this chair packs a lot of bang for buck with lots of features only found in chairs nearly thrice its price and for lighter users. Couple this with Homell’s acclaimed customer service and this chair is definitely worth taking a look at.

Merax might not have the same name brand recognition as DxRacer, but they certainly do have some quality products. Their Merax Gaming Chair is the best PC gaming chair you can buy on a budget without compromising too much on quality.

The Merax features a similar ergonomic design to the DXRacer, with a high back and built in head rest with wider shoulder bolsters to provide more room for broader users. The chair includes lumbar support and headrest cushions that can be adjusted to provide optimal support, although some users may find them unnecessary and intrusive. The arms are only height adjustable though which might be a concern for some users. A conventional pneumatic seat height adjustment system lets you adapt the seat height to your needs. The chair also has a tilt function that can be locked in place or let you rock the chair freely during use which is certainly a high end feature. The chair does recline significantly more than the DXRacer at 180 degrees and also comes with an integrated foot rest which is certainly a nice addition.

This particular model is rated for a maximum weight capacity of 250 lbs and is built for slim to average users. Build quality seems to be good and the chair comes with a one year warranty. The PU leather cover does feel quite upscale but does not offer the same breathability as mesh or fabric. However, there is ample padding over the entire chair and it manages to cut the fine line between soft and supportive.

Merax certainly has managed to produce a DXRacer rival for people on a budget. The chair lacks the adjustable ergonomic design we saw in its more expensive rival but does come with a built in foot rest which is a nice feature. That said, some users have reported less detailed instructions for assembly which can prove challenging. Other than that, this chair certainly proves to be a top competitor for the best PC gaming chair, offering high end features at a lower price point.

Giantex Executive High Back Sport Racing Style Gaming Office Chair Computer Swivel...

$84.99

Our last contender has to be Giantex’s Executive gaming chair which has proven time and again to easily be the best budget gaming chair under a hundred dollars.

Giantex has managed to produce a well-designed chair at a much lower price point without compromising on comfort. Naturally, the chair does lack a lot of features seen in the product discussed above but proves to be a strong contestant if you consider value for money. The chair is a typical high back with a curved back to match the contours of your spine, providing support where it is essential. Giantex has managed to eliminate the need for extra lumbar support with its well thought out design. The headrest is integrated into the back and protrudes an ideal amount for support during use. The chair features fixed, curved armrests which we have not seen in any of the products so far but are remarkably comfortable with a nicely contoured design for a natural position. The seat features a waterfall design with a raised middle section to keep you in comfortably while also letting your thighs move rest easily on the edge of the seat.

The chair has a nylon base, also a first for our list so far. This means that while it might not feel as substantial as its metal counterparts, it is much lighter and easier to move around with minimal effort. The 250 lb weight capacity is pretty remarkable for this price point and matches our top pick, the DX Racer Racing series. A pneumatic gas lift provides easy lowering and raising of the seat for an optimal fit while also featuring a large recline angle that is a necessity for comfort during extended gaming sessions. We also have a 5 castor wheel base and 360 degree swivel for easy mobility even over carpets.

A definite highlight of the chair is its appearance. The chair comes in a subtle white colour with bright red lining along the back and the seats making it one of the best looking chairs in our list. The PU leather cover is also quite soft to touch in contrast to most of the covers offered by the competition. As with nearly all chairs, there is a break-in period of nearly one week before which the chair will feel stiff and noncompliant.

Customer reviews definitely side with our opinions on the Giantex gaming chair with mostly positive feedback applauding the comfortable design, striking aesthetics and amazing value for money. The chair might not feature the high level of adjustability or plethora of fancy features we have discussed so far but still manages to provide a comfortable gaming experience through a well thought our design. All in all, the Giantex Executive High Back is our pick for the best PC gaming chair under $100 and an obvious choice if you are looking for a budget PC gaming chair.
